Quick update

Tomorrow's August?!

Last week was super hectic.  It was as if every day was a Monday!  Crazy.  And it wasn't my best week either so I'm glad it's over.  I was a tad bit cranky...

BUT!  I've got a couple things to show you that I've been working on.

Bee Simple blocks for June (late), July, and August that are getting mailed today.  This block is super simple and you can find the tutorial here. Lots of Aqua was requested so I used one of my fav aqua fabrics for them all.

I finally got around to using some of my rainbow charms and came up with this top while watching the Olympics over the weekend.  I like how it came out and as soon as it's done it's going in the shop (btw - I wasn't happy with how Japan's men's gymnastics totally stole that medal.  In my opinion they didn't deserve it).

I got the top sewn up for my Soda Pop quilt and I love all the colors that are way brighter than I usually go.  I'm pretty behind but you can follow the QAL over at Allegory's awesome blog.

ALSO I got some charms back in the mail from a red, grey, and aqua swap and immediately wanted to try something out with them.  I like how it's turning out and it'll also go in the shop when it's done.

If you follow me on Instagram (mgriffin87 - really creative) you've seen most of these pics already.

My WIP pile is transitioning from tops in one stack on the washer to sandwiches stacked in the living room.  Progress I suppose?

I'm still having a destash sale in my etsy shop so go have a look and see what's still there!

Happy Tuesday!

Destash Sale!

Hi everyone!

So, I'm not going to lie.  That was a bit embarrassing to put that picture up the other day of my crazy mess.  BUT I really appreciate all your suggestions.  I like hearing what's working for you!

I've gone through my fabric and pulled a bunch of stuff that I still love but don't have space for and probably won't be able to use before other awesome fabric comes out.

So...as the title indicates, I'm having a DESTASH SALE in my shop!  I'm selling fabric for $7 per yard, fat quarters, scrap packs, and more, so you should go check it out and see if there's anything there you'll be able to love and use!!

I'll be updating throughout the day, so be sure to check back often to see what is available!!

UPDATE! Everything has been listed (43 listings in the DESTASH section), so be sure to go have a look!

Time to finish something...

...because I'm running out of space! What does your workspace look like when you're in the midst of a sewing tornado?

Guest Post Today!

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to brag a bit, haha!  I'm guest blogging today on Designs by Sessa as part of the Shorts on the Line Sewalong!

You can check out the pattern review and tutorial review I did and the two pairs of shorts that I made!!

Have a happy weekend! I'm going to sew up my Soda Pop QAL top tonight.  What are you doing this weekend?

Bee Blocks = lots of pictures

What a week!

Just a heads up.  I'm guest posting for Shorts On A Line tomorrow at Designs by Sessa and I'm pretty excited.  I'm reviewing a pattern and a tutorial that are both really beginner friendly.
I've never sewn clothes before so if you're in that category, you're going to want to check it out.  Mark your calender!

Oh yeah!  It's Friday so head over to Katie's at There and Back for the Handmade Parade!!

There and Back

I mailed a lot of stuff lately.  Enough that I went to an entirely different post office again to avoid looking crazy (though doing that is kindof crazy).

My Etsy shop (LadyFaceQuilts) had a couple sales (yay!), and I also mailed two different swaps of Christmas fabric in addition to all these bee blocks you're about to see...

Blocks for the 3x6 bee hive 7 (wonky blocks)

3x6 bee hive 11(sampler blocks - I chose Greek Cross blocks.  Tutorial here)

There is one more in this bunch that I didn't get a picture of.  I noticed in the morning light the corners looked green and they're supposed to be teal, so I had to fix that.

I've finally (fingers crossed) gotten all of my hexagons attatched to their papers!!!  Yay!!  Now for the flower making.  I'm attaching all to the connecting center first and then I'll do the petals.  This was the first one I did.

It's awesomeness is pretty high. And it wasn't on purpose.  I didn't notice until the day after when I got them out again.

I also discovered the scrap vomit quilt by Katy and have decided this would be fun to do with little Lady Face who loves to sort out my box of 2.5" squares.  So far I've got about 10 blocks ready to be sewn up for it, so I think that'll be some good sewing therapy and scrap use!  They're mostly covering my ironing board so I'll have to do them to use it, right?!
So that's what I've been doing.  I still have more blocks to make, and the usual list of to-do's that need to be done.

We also got the benefit (?) of free Direct TV this week because my husband works for them.  The owner of our house (we're renting) came over to check out the back fence that's almost falling over from uneven ground and lots of very heavy jumpy dogs.  I'm glad those two things are done.

I always feel on edge whenever someone comes to install electronics or something, or to inspect the house.  Just makes me nervous to have people in my space but not knowing when they're coming or how long, or what exactly they'll looking for.  You know? And I can't relax much it's over.

So now it'll be a fun weekend!!!

Do you like Bacon?

I do.

Have you SEEN this yet?!  You should go look at it now.  I almost died for how awesome and brilliant this is.

The super talented Monica of Happy Zombie has created something wonderful.  And I am making room to participate.  Too good to miss.

This may be strange, but I feel a connection to the subject of this quilt.

Here's why: my (step) brother Chris is pretty much a 99% identical match to this guy (minus the mustache)...but meat, guns, bacon, attitude, clothes, life philosophy, etc...totally the same.  For Christmas we sent him an "Anatomy of Bacon" print.  He liked it a lot. So much that he mentioned he liked it (a big deal).

Go take a look.  If you like Parks and Rec you'll absolutely thank me for finding this for you, and then you'll be so excited by it that you'll gush your soul out to Monica about how your life is now fulfilled.

I may or may not have already done the gushing.

Just Three for July

Well, another month is upon us and pretty soon it will be December...they seriously have autumn/Thanksgiving decorations up at JoAnn's.

Time to see how I did in June with my Just Three Goals.

1) Make a Swoon quilt for a friend's wedding.  Did it!!  And it turned out great.

2) Keep up with the bee's and other required-to-be-done-by-the-end-of-June commitments.  Ok...I didn't get everything done for June that I was supposed to, but that's what the weekend is for!

3) Relax a bit. Check!  Going to CA helped a bit, and making Hexagons for the Hexy MF worked too.  That's turning into my slow down and enjoy project.  I'm hoping it doesn't take 10 years though.

Now to make some new goals for July!

1) Catch up with June obligations and keep up with July obligations (and don't join anything else)

2) Don't buy any more fabric - This is going to be a toughie.  Have you seen the stuff that comes out this month?!  But I have enough and need to get things finished before I start anything else.

3) Add three quilts to my Etsy shop - This shouldn't be too hard.  I have at least 5 tops I've made that are baby/toddler size quilts that I just made for no particular reason, that are waiting to be basted, quilted, and finished.  And I already basted one last night :)

Basically I've noticed that my WIP pile is way too big.  I am seriously lacking in finishing discipline skills.  So that's what I'm going to work on this month.   That and not starting any more projects...yet...

Oh, Hi!!

Bullets will have to suffice today.  And lots of pictures.

*Our trip to CA was awesome.  It was so great to see my brother, old friends, cousins I hadn't seen in 7+ years, my best friend (we've known each other almost 20 years!!), and to just BE there.  Not to mention the food.  The beach.  Wonderful.  If California wasn't so messed up and expensive I'd move there yesterday.

*and I got to give this quilt to this lovely bride and groom.  I've known her my entire life.  Her mom was actually there when I was born because my dad was sick.

*Fourth of July was pretty great too!  We saw our city's parade, got the parade sunburn, and had a BBQ.  There was also a tasty watermelon, but I'm finishing that up today.

*I've been catching up on the Bachelorette.  I have to say, Arie's eyes are pretty great, and his hair.  I go for goofy brown haired guys though....  Jef looks like Anthony Michael Hall in Sixteen Candles.  Look it up.  I'm really not wrong on this one.

*I am the queen bee this month for the Don't Worry {Bee} Happy bee!  I'm pretty excited about what I chose.  I got all 9 bags of fabric yum mailed off yesterday.
*I'm also Queen Bee for the charity bee Sew. Quilt. Give.  This month I chose granny squares to make a quilt for one of the moms there.

*I got this awesome pillow from the Bee a {modern} swapper pillow cover swap in June! I had my eye on this one and my fingers crossed that it'd be mine!!  The one I'm making is almost done...Sorry about the delay partner!  It's coming!!

*I'm catching up on all the bee blocks and things I didn't get done because I was in California.  I'm going to have a lot to show you this month.

*First up is the Quilt Around The World II bee that I just couldn't pass up.  Here's what I've come up with.  I'm asking that the color scheme stay relatively cohesive but any design or size of block is fine.

*Here's one of the blocks I've finished for someone with a geometric theme.  I probably wouldn't have tried this block otherwise, and it did give me a little attitude, but I think it will go with her quilt.  To be honest, I actually put the corners in the wrong place.  They are supposed to be on the orange strips, making the + design on the diagonal...but it happened and I'm ok with it.

*I got my squares cut for the Soda Pop QAL!

*I saved $55 at JoAnn's yesterday.  I just thought I'd share that with you all.

*I managed to make some Hexagons for the Hexy MF QAL...not even close to the 400 howmanyeverythereare...but it's a start!

*While I was at the wedding in CA, I got some interest in my quilt making abilities!!  I'm excited about that.

*My 2 year old girl pretends she's a cat at least three times a day.

*Matthew's cast comes off on Monday (I might be more excited than he is...)

Now, I have a watermelon to eat!  Hope you've all had a happy week!!
