Kids Clothes Week: the rest

I got a bit logged down with keeping up the blogging side of sewing for Kids Clothes Week so this is a sum up of the entire week. 

You already saw the leggings.  I ended up adding 1/4" to each side of the 9-12 month size leggings pattern and it was perfect for Sam.  Long, but that's good.

I was most proud of these Bimaa Sweaters I made for Abby.  I made one hooded version (that I apparently never took a picture of...oops...) and this one (above) with the cowl neck option.  She calls it an attached scarf and loves it too.

This pattern is awesome.  I LOVE it and knew I did because it turns out so professionally and I immediately cut out another after the first one was finished.  

I have fabric to make a hooded version or two for Matthew, since he kindof missed out on this sewing.  Boys seem harder to sew for.  It takes a bit more brain power for me to sew for him than for either of the girls.  But hopefully he'll have some good pieces in a few weeks.

Samantha got a new Geranium Dress (pattern here) and it definitely won't be her last.  You've heard it before, excellent pattern.  Go buy it. 

And finally, I made a Lucille Top for Abby that she is nuts for!  Hello strawberry knit!!  Love that print.  This was fun to put together (the combinations of fabrics you could use!!!), but shows me I do need to keep practicing.  There is some waviness to the hems.  Actually, the pattern calls for cuffs on the sleeves, but I put mine on and they wouldn't fit over her hands!!  Ha.  So I cut them off.  I plan to put something there, but haven't done it yet.

And, as usual I cut more than I got to sew up, so you're very definitely in for more kids clothes sewing for all of the foreseeable future! Yay!

Samantha's blessing dress

Samantha is now 3 months old and was blessed at our church on Sunday two weeks ago (I'm a Mormon and you can find out more about my faith here).

We had a bunch of family come to town for the weekend and the blessing on Sunday and it was such a great time.  I always get really nervous when we have "events" or people coming around just to see us.  What if I'm not that exciting or they have a horrible time?  This time I didn't worry about that stuff at all once everyone was here!  It was excellent.  So excellent I didn't take many pictures because I was having too much fun and leaving my phone elsewhere...oops!

But anyway, I had to make her a dress!!

I always go through the remnant bins at JoAnn's and had found this lovely fabric there a while ago.  It's like eyelet, but there are no holes...I'm not sure what it's technically called.  Anyone know?

Anyway, I used the Geranium Dress pattern in size 3-6 months to make this and lined it with the lining from a linen skirt that I don't fit into anymore.  That's slippery stuff, lining.  But it worked out.

Traditionally blessing outfits are white to symbolize purity, I wanted a tiny pop of color here and there, and these were the perfect touch.

We put a onesie under the dress, and a white cardigan over, and some adorable little shoes that were a gift, on her feet.

And a tiny pink felt bow from this Etsy shop in her luscious hair.

It turned out just as I wanted.  Simple and adorable.

Aren't those cheeks the best?!  

The start of some baby sewing

These can be July finishes #2 and #3...even though they're new projects : )

When I was pregnant with my other two kids I didn't have the sewing bug.  So I never made them anything really. 

Now that I kindof know what I'm doing and like to do it, I've started making a couple things for the new lady that I *hope* will be here in less than 5 weeks (I'm 35 weeks now and the earlier she shows up the better!).

I made 5 bibs on Saturday from this free download by Heather Bailey.  Super simple and great stash busters.  I'll be making many more, especially since there's a gazillion pregnant people I know right now...

Then I downloaded the newborn geranium dress pattern (also free) and made two of those! I have one more cut out too.

I have the real pattern and will make some more in bigger sizes soon, but come on, these are so small and adorable, and FAST to make that I might make a few more of these first. 

I still don't have any inspiration for a quilt for the baby, but maybe that'll show up later?  We'll see.  This baby sewing is fun though, and quick!

Easter sewing...and lots of eggs...and lots of pictures...and a birthday!

I bought some wooden eggs for the kids to paint for Easter and was pretty proud of myself for letting them use whatever colors they wanted.

 I didn't take a picture of their finished eggs, but they eventually mixed all the colors together and now we have some nicely camouflaged rock eggs...but they're super proud of their eggs!

Ben had a church activity the week before Easter and for some reason needed to get 10 dozen eggs for it.  There were extras, and we're just now finishing them up. 

We made scrambled eggs, dutch babies with powdered sugar and strawberries, egg salad and a birthday cake that fortunately required 6 eggs on it's own just yesterday for Abby's 3rd birthday.

 We had a pretty good Easter weekend.  I sewed up the Geranium dress pattern for Abby to wear to church and a matching bow-tie for Matthew, but...Abby and I never made it to church....oh well. That's a different story. 

The Saturday before, the kids got to go to 2 Easter egg hunts, saw "the Easter bunny" and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing the holidays through their eyes.  It's so much more exciting! 

So, Abby's Easter dress turned into a birthday dress and that was fine.  I'm already anxious to make another Geranium dress, they're so darn cute, and really not that difficult to make.  Plus, she loves wearing it and that's totally all the reason I need!

And for the next 6 days I have two 3 year olds at home!  I can't believe how fast these little monkeys grow up!
