Two Custom Posie Dolls

I had a chance to make two dolls for a friend to give her daughters for Christmas this year.  We worked to customize them to resemble her daughters and to use fabrics with each girls' favorite colors.  Now that it's after Christmas, I think it's safe to show them to you.  Poor pictures aside I think they turned out pretty cute.

New Dolls and Scarves

I use this lovely pattern from Charlaanne on Etsy to make these dolls.  From that pattern I modified the body and left out the yarn hair to make a boy doll this weekend.

He didn't have any clothes for a while but now he does.  His shirt, pants and socks are removable. The little man requested a boy doll so I have his brain to thank for making this little dude here come to life! He's really cute, don't you think?

I love this dolls hair. Sometimes they don't turn out, or the yarn doesn't stay where it's supposed to, but this one is doing really really well.  Her dress and socks are removable and her hair bow has been stitched and hot glued in place so she'll look pretty even during playtime!

I also finally found more of this red and black buffalo check flannel at JoAnn's.  It's like ALWAYS out of stock when I go so when I found some today I snatched up ALL the flannel they had, which wasn't a ton.  All said and done, I have enough for 3 of these scarves which you can find here in my shop! 

They are all listed in my Etsy shop here and will arrive in time for US Christmas delivery if ordered before December 16th.  

a stroller quilt

 

I put a stack of fabrics together a while ago that I really liked, cut a random amount of 5" squares from each fabric, made some HST's, and came up with this.  It was a quick and relaxing sew and turned out the perfect size for a little stroller or crib quilt or playmat.  It measures 27.5" x 36".  As you can tell I have a strict Quality Control department that thoroughly tests everything before I list it, haha!  I have another just like it in more feminine colors going through the machine right now.  This one is listed in my Etsy shop LadyFaceMakes.

Etsy Shop and some pictures

I've been making some changes to my Etsy things and wanted to pass it along.

Over the weekend I closed my quilt shop and plan to keep it closed and just use LadyFaceMakes in the future.  There will definitely be a quilt section that you should check out. 

I have put LadyFaceMakes on vacation mode for a while to update some things I thought needed work, add new products, and get a little time to catch my breath. 

I will reopen on MARCH 18th and will show a few peaks of what I will be adding on my instagram shop account @shopladyface, and a coupon code you can use on anything the day of the reopening. 

I'm excited about new things coming and hope you'll come check them out! 

p.s. that adorable cross stitch I'm working on in the above photo is from Satsuma Street on Etsy.  She just released a San Fransisco pattern that I've got my eyes on. 

Infinity scarves

I purchased some fabric recently from Pink Castle Fabrics that was begging to be made into a scarf.

I used this post from Anna Maria Horner's blog as my "template" of sorts.

For reference, if you want to make your own from her measurements you'll need 2 yards of fabric assuming your WOF measures approx 44" as mine did.  

Then, I experimented with smaller versions.

I found this gorgeously soft flannel buffalo check fabric and made a scarf out of that based on measurements of another infinity scarf I had, but still using AMH's directions. 

This one turned out around 12" x 60" which I think is the perfect size.  I'm still new at accessorizing, so a really voluminous big scarf (like the two above) can sometimes be overwhelming for me.  This one is perfect. 

The trick, and I think what put me off this project for so long, is that you don't really have to create the infinity with the fabric when you sew it.  You create that figure 8 when you wrap it around your neck.

Much simpler and totally excellent looking.

p.s. I'm a terrible model and shot these pics myself but I do think the scarves are lovely.  All except for the teal and purple-y one, are listed in my new Etsy shop, LadyFaceMakes.

Happy October and some updates

I'm thrilled that it's October.  I LOVE Halloween!!!

But I'm also a little freaked because that always triggers the beginning of holiday madness.

This year Abby wants to be a magical princess with a sparkly purple dress and a wand. With any luck we'll be making her costume.


Matthew says he wants to be a tiger.  He's also said he wants to be a pirate, a cowboy, and where's waldo.

They have decided that Sam will be a tiny pumpkin. 


In other news, I'm opening up another Etsy shop soon for non-quilt things.  Here's a tiny peek.

I'm still keeping LadyFaceQuilts but it will be where I sell my quilts and destash any fabric.

Zooey Goes to the Beach is finished!

I finished something!!  Actually it's been sitting done for about 2.5 weeks now and I'm finally getting around to blogging about it.

I finished this top last spring and now it's finally a completed quilt!  I hand quilted this one, so that's my excuse for why it took forever to finish.

The pattern is from Lu and you can find it here in her Etsy shop.  It's a wonderful pattern, and perfect for displaying favorite prints.

I backed this one with a duvet from IKEA that is super soft and snuggly, and a gorgeous soft print I wish they still made.

This one measures 55 1/2" x 67" and is available in my Etsy shop here.  I wish I could keep it but as the Mr. rightly points out, I can't quilt the entire house...so I've got to part with some of them, as hard as it is to do.

I've got about a month and a half left until baby #3 gets here so the list of Things To Finish is prominent in my brain.  On to the next one!!

Little Gentleman Fancy Bow-Ties

I made more "Fancy Bow-Ties" for Matthew back at the start of May.  I just realized I never posted about them!  He's got a nice little collection now and likes to pick one each Sunday to wear to church.

While I was at it, I cut muliple pieces from each fabric instead of one, and made a few of each.

I've listed the "spares" in my Etsy shop.

This is not my own pattern, I made them from this free tutorial you can find here.  They are really quick to make, but sometimes it's easier to get them made by someone else.  Plus they're adorable so it's a win-win.

**For reference, Matthew is 4 years old and these fit him with room to spare.  I cut the velcro a little longer (1.5" or so) so that they'll be adjustable for a while as he grows and last a little longer.  Plus, since the band is tucked into the collar of his shirts you can't see the velcro part. 

What I'm working on...

We have about two weeks before we leave for another trip and in the between time I'm trying to get some projects finished that I'll share here before I forget, I hope...

I finished binding these three quilts last night and have put them in my Etsy shop in case you'd like to have a peek. 

I'm taping, tracing, and cutting patterns today to get some kids sewing done because my kids are growing out of everything and never seem to have enough shorts/t-shirts!! I'm going to try out some of the patterns I've bought recently and see how it turns out!

Good plan, right? I'll let you know how it goes...

New Quilts in the shop!!

I've finished these quilts recently and just got them listed in my Etsy shop today.

First up is a low volume patchwork quilt that's super lightweight.  It has no batting and a flannel back and I kindof want to keep it because it feels so luscious!!  It's really super, I hope it goes to a good home that will snuggle it to bits!

The second quilt is a baby quilt that features the Monsterz fabric line of adorable prints.  These little critters are so cute.  I can just see a little kids eyes light up as they discover everything these little monsterz are up to!  They're adorable. 

This quilt also has no batting and feels just as luscious with just a flannel back.  I love flannel, since it gets softer and lovelier with every wash it's awesome for kids since their stuff seems to gets washed more than everything else!  Both of these quilts will be great for all seasons (another bonus to no batting - not too hot and not too cold!).

100th post!! Giveaway and discount code!

Hi everyone!!

This is my 100th blog post!  I hope you have all enjoyed some of the last 100 posts, I've had a lot of fun playing around with the whole thing!  I have some more fun stuff planned for future posts, and am hoping to get a bit more organized so I can be a bit less scattered.

I am waiting on my tutorial for Halloween Bunting until tomorrow but I do have something to share!

I made cookies today and they're my favorite (It's the recipe on the back of the Toll House Chocolate Chips).  And when a day like today comes along, they're wonderful to put together in 15 minutes.  You could just make the dough, I won't judge.

I don't feel like I am super good at tons of things, but I've been making chocolate chip cookies (from this recipe) since I was 5 years old.  That's almost 20 years of experience!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 sticks (1 cup) softened butter
3/4 cup packed brown sugar*
3/4 cup granulated sugar*
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 scant tsp. salt
1 generous tsp. vanilla (to be honest I don't measure this....vanilla is the best)
2 cups flour*
as many chocolate chips as you want :) (I don't measure those either)

Directions:

1.  Preheat oven to 350.  Combine butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a med-large bowl until creamy and smooth.
2.  Add eggs and mix until combined.
3.  Add baking soda, salt, and vanilla and mix again.
4.  Add flour and chocolate chips and mix (if you like your cookies cake-y then feel free to add more flour).  Taste to be sure of it's deliciousness
5. scoop onto ungreased baking/cookie sheet and bake for 9-12 minutes.  I set timer for 9 minutes, check them and add time.  I hate burnt cookies.
6. Devour and then make some more.

*Living in Idaho I've modified the recipe a tad to get good results at this elevation.  I use 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 2 1/4-2 1/2 cups flour.  Basically, the more brown sugar, the chewier the cookie.  If you like crunchy cookies add more granulated sugar, and if you like cakey cookies add more flour.
