I Like Chicken
First, I know this is primarily a sewing blog with pictures of my kids. There's none of that in this post.
Second, I'm nervous to share this, even though it shouldn't be a big deal. But it is a bit personal. And for some reason I feel like sharing my opinion today.
Let me tell you a story.
When I was in school growing up I had a good friend. We met in midde school. She and I had completely differing opinions, values, and viewpoints on everything. I mean everything. But we got along and had a great friendship because we didn't fight about our opinions. We accepted the differences we had and enjoyed being together. It was fun and easy to spend time together. The fact that I was, and am, a member of the LDS church (Mormon) didn't matter to her, and the fact that she was not a Mormon didn't matter to me. Why would it?
Then came the election of 2008 and with it Proposition 8. Now, here was another place where our opinions drastically differed. I didn't care. I'm too shy to go around telling everyone what I think anyway. She had one opinion, I had another. That's the point (At this time I was married, finishing my last year of college and was pregnant with our first child - just for the mental timeline. She was equally moving along in her life as well).
I don't know what happened. Maybe it was that we didn't get to talk as much, but something changed. I will say this. I did not agree with her. She did not agree with me. I didn't try to convince her, and in the past she hadn't pressured me about my beliefs either.
But when this came along...it tore us apart. My reason for believing one thing just wasn't enough. She went after me for it. I'm not playing victim, that's lame. I answered her questions, respected her opinion, and she couldn't let it go. I haven't spoken to or seen or heard from her in the almost 4 years since and it breaks me up.
I don't know why we couldn't go on being friends. Just because I thought one thing and she thought another. But it happened.
This whole "issue" about chicken is ridiculous.
Here's why.
Everyone has an opinion. That is a good thing. That's the point.
I like Chick-Fil-A because (in my opinion) they make good chicken. Not because they're closed on Sundays. Not because they're run by a Christian family. But because they make good food. That's why I eat there. If you don't like their chicken that's fine.
I watch project runway because I like Tim Gunn, and I admire the creativity and people who are a part of it. Not because of my opinion on Gay Marriage.
It shouldn't matter what Chick-Fil-A believes in (there are other dining options. Just go eat somewhere else. Who cares where I have lunch?).
I think you should stand up for whatever it is you believe in! Especially if it is being challenged or attacked.
But whatever side of the divide you are on, it is wrong to be mean when someone disagrees with you.
You can live your life however you want to. That's your business and your right. But let me live my life the way I want to in return. That's being respectful.
If you disagree with me that's great. But I hope we can still be friends.
And, in case you're curious...I am going to Chick-Fil-A today.
It's 40 minutes away and happens to be two blocks away from the closest Target ;) Matthew needs longer pants and bigger shoes. I'd be going there anyway, why not today?

Quick update
Tomorrow's August?!
Last week was super hectic. It was as if every day was a Monday! Crazy. And it wasn't my best week either so I'm glad it's over. I was a tad bit cranky...
BUT! I've got a couple things to show you that I've been working on.
Bee Simple blocks for June (late), July, and August that are getting mailed today. This block is super simple and you can find the tutorial here. Lots of Aqua was requested so I used one of my fav aqua fabrics for them all.
I finally got around to using some of my rainbow charms and came up with this top while watching the Olympics over the weekend. I like how it came out and as soon as it's done it's going in the shop (btw - I wasn't happy with how Japan's men's gymnastics totally stole that medal. In my opinion they didn't deserve it).
I got the top sewn up for my Soda Pop quilt and I love all the colors that are way brighter than I usually go. I'm pretty behind but you can follow the QAL over at Allegory's awesome blog.
ALSO I got some charms back in the mail from a red, grey, and aqua swap and immediately wanted to try something out with them. I like how it's turning out and it'll also go in the shop when it's done.
If you follow me on Instagram (mgriffin87 - really creative) you've seen most of these pics already.
My WIP pile is transitioning from tops in one stack on the washer to sandwiches stacked in the living room. Progress I suppose?
I'm still having a destash sale in my etsy shop so go have a look and see what's still there!

Destash Sale!
Hi everyone!
So, I'm not going to lie. That was a bit embarrassing to put that picture up the other day of my crazy mess. BUT I really appreciate all your suggestions. I like hearing what's working for you!
I've gone through my fabric and pulled a bunch of stuff that I still love but don't have space for and probably won't be able to use before other awesome fabric comes out.
So...as the title indicates, I'm having a DESTASH SALE in my shop! I'm selling fabric for $7 per yard, fat quarters, scrap packs, and more, so you should go check it out and see if there's anything there you'll be able to love and use!!
I'll be updating throughout the day, so be sure to check back often to see what is available!!

Bee Blocks = lots of pictures
What a week!
Just a heads up. I'm guest posting for Shorts On A Line tomorrow at Designs by Sessa and I'm pretty excited. I'm reviewing a pattern and a tutorial that are both really beginner friendly.
I've never sewn clothes before so if you're in that category, you're going to want to check it out. Mark your calender!
Oh yeah! It's Friday so head over to Katie's at There and Back for the Handmade Parade!!
I mailed a lot of stuff lately. Enough that I went to an entirely different post office again to avoid looking crazy (though doing that is kindof crazy).
My Etsy shop (LadyFaceQuilts) had a couple sales (yay!), and I also mailed two different swaps of Christmas fabric in addition to all these bee blocks you're about to see...
Blocks for the 3x6 bee hive 7 (wonky blocks)
3x6 bee hive 11(sampler blocks - I chose Greek Cross blocks. Tutorial here)
There is one more in this bunch that I didn't get a picture of. I noticed in the morning light the corners looked green and they're supposed to be teal, so I had to fix that.
I've finally (fingers crossed) gotten all of my hexagons attatched to their papers!!! Yay!! Now for the flower making. I'm attaching all to the connecting center first and then I'll do the petals. This was the first one I did.
It's awesomeness is pretty high. And it wasn't on purpose. I didn't notice until the day after when I got them out again.
I also discovered the scrap vomit quilt by Katy and have decided this would be fun to do with little Lady Face who loves to sort out my box of 2.5" squares. So far I've got about 10 blocks ready to be sewn up for it, so I think that'll be some good sewing therapy and scrap use! They're mostly covering my ironing board so I'll have to do them to use it, right?!
So that's what I've been doing. I still have more blocks to make, and the usual list of to-do's that need to be done.
We also got the benefit (?) of free Direct TV this week because my husband works for them. The owner of our house (we're renting) came over to check out the back fence that's almost falling over from uneven ground and lots of very heavy jumpy dogs. I'm glad those two things are done.
I always feel on edge whenever someone comes to install electronics or something, or to inspect the house. Just makes me nervous to have people in my space but not knowing when they're coming or how long, or what exactly they'll looking for. You know? And I can't relax much it's over.
So now it'll be a fun weekend!!!
